Privacy Policy

Last updated: March 2026

Caydev operates StackPicker (available at stackpicker.io). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have regarding your data. We are committed to keeping this policy plain and straightforward.

1. Information We Collect

We collect the following categories of information:

Analytics data (via PostHog)

When you visit StackPicker, we collect anonymized usage data including page views, navigation patterns, feature interactions, and approximate geographic region. This data is tied to an anonymous session identifier, not your personal identity.

Email address (optional)

If you choose to access the AI Stack Advisor beyond the free tier, we ask for your email address. Providing it is voluntary. We use it solely to manage your access quota and may send infrequent product updates. You can opt out at any time.

Anonymous session IDs

We store an anonymous session identifier in your browser's localStorage. This is used to associate your built stacks with your browser session without requiring an account. No personal information is tied to this identifier.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use collected information to:

  • Understand how StackPicker is used and improve the platform
  • Provide personalized AI stack recommendations when requested
  • Enforce fair usage limits on AI-powered features
  • Debug technical issues and maintain platform stability
  • Send infrequent product updates if you have opted in by providing your email

We do not sell your personal data to third parties. We do not use your data for advertising purposes.

3. Cookies

We use two categories of cookies:

Essential cookies

Required for core functionality such as theme preferences and session management. These cannot be disabled without affecting platform performance.

Analytics cookies (PostHog)

Optional cookies used to collect anonymized usage data. You may reject analytics cookies without losing access to any core features of StackPicker.

4. Data Storage

Your data is stored in the following locations:

  • Supabase (PostgreSQL database hosted in the EU and US) — stores stack data, AI query logs, and any email addresses you provide
  • Your browser's localStorage — stores your current stack, session ID, theme preference, and AI usage counters locally on your device

5. Third-Party Services

StackPicker uses the following third-party services that may process data on our behalf:

PostHog (analytics)

Collects anonymized event data to help us understand platform usage. PostHog is configured to minimize data collection. Review PostHog's privacy policy at posthog.com/privacy.

OpenAI (AI recommendations)

When you use the AI Stack Advisor, your query is sent to OpenAI's API to generate recommendations. Queries do not include personal identifiers. Review OpenAI's privacy policy at openai.com/privacy.

Vercel (hosting)

StackPicker is hosted on Vercel. Vercel may process standard web server logs including IP addresses as part of its infrastructure. Review Vercel's privacy policy at vercel.com/legal/privacy-policy.

6. Data Retention

We retain data for the following periods:

  • Anonymous stacks: retained for 90 days from last access, then automatically deleted
  • AI query logs: retained for rate limiting purposes for up to 30 days
  • Email addresses: retained until you request deletion or unsubscribe
  • Analytics data: retained per PostHog's default retention settings (typically 1 year)

7. Your Rights and Choices

You have the following rights regarding your data:

  • Reject analytics cookies — you can decline analytics tracking without losing access to any core features
